It doesn't matter if you are seeking quotes from an insurance quote comparison site, directly from an insurance provider, or through an insurance broker, or whether you are looking for comprehensive coverage or a cheap car insurance policy - you will have to answer quite a few questions before you can be quoted an accurate price. No matter whom you are seeking a quote through, though, you should make sure that you have the information that you will need on hand before you apply. This can make the process go much more smoothly than if you have to scramble for the answer to each question.

Information About You

You will need to provide all of the details of your driver's licence, including the type of licence that you have, how long you have held it, and information on any points that might still be on your licence. These things will be require for everyone who will be listed as a named driver for the car on the policy. You will need to present a car insurance history, too. This includes complete records of any claims that you have ever had to make, how much your no claims discount amounts to, and all insurance company names that can verify this information. You will need to provide the address and full postcode for the property on which you live, as well.

Information About Your Vehicle

Your vehicle is extremely important to the insuring process, obviously. You will be asked questions regarding your vehicle's registration number, make and model, value, where it is stored when in not in use, and an approximation of how much mileage you put on the car each year. You will also need to tell the insurance provider what the purpose of your car is, such as whether it is strictly for social activities, commuting to work, domestic uses, a work vehicle, or if it is used for all of these things. No matter what you do, don't lie or stretch the truth. In the event that you need to file a claim for repairs or replacement of your vehicle, if your insurance provider discovers that the information you provided them with is not the complete truth, your entire policy could be invalidated.

Legal Requirements

By law, any car that is more than three years old has to successfully pass an MOT test, and you have to have a certificate to verify that it passed. If you do not have a car insurance certificate and MOT certificate, you can't tax a car. It is illegal to drive a vehicle without obtaining all of these documents. The Road Traffic Act says that you have to have insurance coverage for damage or injury that you caused while you were driving the car. You also have the obligation to notify your insurance provider if there are any changes that need to be made to your policy. This includes any driving offences or traffic citations that you have acquired, as well as modifications that you make to the car - though it is always a good idea to speak with your agent before making modifications. This notification is called 'utmost good faith'. To you, this means that you must immediately disclose anything that your insurance company might feel is important to your policy. To your insurance provider, this means that they assume all of the details contained in your policy are correct. If any of this information is not correct, you run the risk of being refused when you file a claim.

Fronting

Fronting is quite a common offence against car insurance policies. It is when a parent has his or her child's name listed on the insurance policy as a named driver while the child is truthfully the primary driver of the vehicle. The child may also be the owner and registered holder of the vehicle. This does make insurance premiums more inexpensive for young drivers, but if your insurance provider discovers that this is being done, they can reject any claims that you make or render your policy void altogether.
