Shop for Cheaper Car Insurance with Free Quotes

Most vehicle owners are required to carry automobile insurance, but policy prices can fluctuate for many different reasons. Finding cheap coverage usually requires that motorists shop around and explore their options. One of the primary reasons why prices often differ between insurers is because coverage providers typically set rates and interpret risk differently. The most affordable option for one driver may not be economical for another. For this reason, it is essential to compare sample rates.

Motorists can usually take advantage of free car insurance quotes to efficiently shop for coverage. Online resources enable vehicle owners to see several estimates at once, letting motorists efficiently evaluate multiple options. The reason why some policies are cheaper than others is because premiums are generally based on the potential that a motorist will file a claim. To determine the level of risk that a motorist represents, insurers require an extensive amount of information regarding a motorist’s automobile, desired coverage, and other personal details.

When motorists are rated by insurers, they are generally placed into one of three categories: the preferred, standard, or nonstandard market. Each of these categories represents a level of risk, which also impacts how much a vehicle owner pays for auto protection. Although motorists in the nonstandard market typically encounter higher premiums, there are some coverage providers that specialize in insuring higher risk drivers. For this reason, motorists from all markets have the opportunity to shop around and make adjustments in an effort to find cheaper vehicle protection.
Cheaper Car Insurance from Shopping Around

Apart from shopping around for the lowest rates, motorists can take an active role in Controlling the Cost of Auto Insurance by adjusting their desired coverage or taking advantage of discounts. Vehicle owners are frequently encouraged to purchase as much protection as possible, but omitting unnecessary coverages and adjusting deductibles can help to lower coverage costs. Many motorists are required to carry comprehensive and collision coverage that includes a deductible. Choosing a higher deductible can lower the price of policy, but in the event of an accident, the motorist may have to pay more out of pocket.

Many insurance companies offer special discounts as a way to attract new customers. However, individual companies usually promote different savings. Similar to comparing quotes, motorists can often get cheaper coverage by shopping around for the most advantageous assortment of discounts. After completing an online quote comparison, drivers should personally contact several affordable insurers to learn about potential savings.

There are multiple offers that are common among coverage providers, including reduced rates for maintaining a clean driving record or owning a motor vehicle that is equipped with a security system. Some rate reductions, however, are less common. Some insurers may reduce premiums for belonging to a specific club or organization, while others may promote discounts for majoring in a specific subject while in school.

Why A Big Chevy Is Cheaper To Insure Than A Tiny Civic

ByValik Rudd

Expert Author Valik Rudd

When you first think about it, something as small as a Honda Civic should be pretty cheap to insure. Well, in comparison with something huge like a extended-cab Chevy pickup anyway. The reality is actually quite different and the big pickup will be the more affordable of the two. Yes, the half-ton monster of the road is more affordable to insure than a tiny almost-two-seater Civic. I couldn't believe it my self.

The car insurance companies have their own algorithms for determining their insurance rates, and some are more mysterious than others. This part however is not that mysterious. Let me explain, one of the biggest things that affects the car insurance rate is the driver's risk factor. This risk factor includes the type of car that is being insured in addition to probably hundreds of other things that have to do with the driver and probably his grandmother. In this article I want to discuss the car, because I was shocked when I found out that this huge Chevy is cheaper to insure than a small car like a Civic. So after doing a bit of looking around it was obvious why it is the way it is.

If you think about it, what type of person drives a Honda Civic? Probably a young male, maybe a college student. This is just me speculating here but it makes sense to me. Now, a young guy like that will be pretty likely to speed, to not wear a seat belt, run a red light and other risky things, and chances are he'd be doing all of the above all at the same time.

Now think about a half-ton extended-cab Chevy pickup... It is more expensive to buy and takes more money to fuel. A driver of something like that would most likely be someone a little older and probably more mature. This type of person would be less likely to do less-than-wise things on the roads and because of this exact fact, this type of person, or a person driving this type of car, will have a lower risk factor, which in turn makes the car insurance cheaper.

The top 10 cheapest cars to insure list for this year do not include even one sedan or a coupe. All 10 are either SUV's, Pickups or Vans. Bigger and less sportier car, statistically, means safer driver.

So the takeaway from this is that if you like to save money, buy a bigger, not as sporty type of car. A van, an SUV or a pickup, to be more specific. Some crossover types of cars also made it on the top-20 list, so those may be good candidates too.

Knowing About Car Insurance Can Help You Make It Cheaper

ByAnthony Saxon

Sometimes knowing more about car insurance and how premiums are calculated can help you justify the price you pay and also give you an upper hand in making the cost as cheap as possible. A good place to start is what car insurance actually provides.

What Does Car Insurance Provide?

Car insurance provides monetary protection against damage caused to the vehicle caused by traffic collisions, accidents or any liability incurred through an accident. Car insurance can also provide cover in the event of theft or vandalism.

Car insurance is linked to the car itself as opposed to covering an individual to drive any car. However some insurance policies can cover an individual on other people's cars with a stipulation on the cover only being at third party only level.

What Types of Car Insurance are Available?

Third party only is the minimum cover required in the UK by law. Third party only as the name suggest only covers liability to third parties, it provides:

· Liability for injury to others

· Damage to property and vehicles caused by an accident

· Liability whilst towing a caravan or trailer

Third party fire & theft includes the cover of third party only but provides additional cover for:

· Fire damage

· Theft of your vehicle

· Damage to your vehicle as a result of theft

Fully comprehensive insurance is the highest level of cover available; it encompasses all of the cover of third party only and third party fire and theft but also includes a number of other advantages:

· Loss or damage to the vehicle

· Windscreen cover

Comprehensive insurance is a type of car insurance that covers auto theft, weather damage, animal encounters on the road, etc. But shopping for this type or any other car insurance is no picnic. You sometimes have to dig deep before finding the right policy at the right premium. Doing just a little research can literally save you hundreds of dollars per year on your overall policy.

One way to find cheap car insurance with comprehensive coverage is to make sure your car has the latest anti-theft devices. Products made to deter theft can improve your rate because there's less of a chance that an auto theft will occur. Anti-theft devices are recommended for any type of vehicle, no matter where you live or what your age. Thieves know no limits and will steal from teens, mature adults and everyone in between. Even a used, inexpensive car should be protected. The long-term benefits are well worth it.

Devices to Consider

Choose a device that meets your budget or ask the insurance provider what they recommend. There are car alarms, which make a loud noise (either honking or sirens) when someone attempts a break-in or if your car window gets broken. Steering wheel and tire locks prevent someone from driving off in your car even if they were successful at breaking in. These are locked in place with either a key or special passcode. Kill switches are switches that must be turned on for the car to start, and are usually hidden from plain view. Tracking devices can be installed so the police will be able to trace exactly where your car is taken after being stolen.

High Crime Areas

If you live in a high crime neighborhood, you'll definitely want to get some sort of anti-theft device. Your provider might offer cheap auto insurance, but because of the high probability of theft in your area, the rates might be higher if you don't take the necessary precautions. Also, let your provider know if you plan to park your vehicle within a locked garage at night. This also lessens the risk for auto theft.

High Theft Rate for Certain Cars

You can research online to find out which cars are more likely to be stolen. Search for "Top 10 Most Stolen Vehicles" in your state or city. This list will reveal the 10 vehicles that are more attractive to thieves for whatever reason. If you know that a certain make and model is at high risk, then ask your provider if buying this type of car will cause your car insurance premium to go up. Also, ask if getting anti-theft devices installed will eliminate the added costs.

Once you have anti-theft devices in place, be sure to compare various providers using online rate comparison sites. You can compare quotes to find cheap insurance based on your automobile, driving history, credit report, age, and other factors. Providers do differ in how they determine rates, so failing to compare first could leave you with a larger premium than necessary. Whether buying a new or used car, or seeking ways to obtain cheap car insurance on your current automobile, use these tips about anti-theft devices to get started.
