How to Change to a New Car Insurance Company

ByRobert B. Lawrence

Expert Author Robert B. Lawrence

There are many important steps to consider when switching your car insurance to a new insurance company. You should take your time and make a good sound decision based on your research. Your first step will be to obtain cost comparisons/quotes from potential new insurance companies. Whether you contact a local agent or inquire directly through a company website to obtain the quote, be upfront and honest with the information you provide. This will ensure an accurate rate and provide assurance that if a claim arises you'll be covered.

Try to obtain a quote with apples to apples coverage so you can easily understand a savings with a new company. After a comparison is done, ask for guidance from the agent or company to recommend any coverage which they think should be increase, omitted or added based on your particular situation. Your situation may have changed since your last renewal so it's always a smart idea to review your policy with the agent or company periodically.

Once your decision is made, you will need meet with the new agent or discuss info over the phone, deliver payment and provide some prior policy information. This information is needed in order to cancel the prior policy. The new company or agent will send a cancellation request, with your signature to your prior company and inform them of the exact cancellation date. Be sure the dates coincide so there is no lapse in coverage. Don't ever cancel a policy before the new policy takes effect. This will surely result in fines and suspensions from your local department of motor vehicles. When you old policy is cancelled, any unused premium will be prorated and returned directly to you via check.

Reasons such as why to switch are as important as when to switch. Your renewal date notice usually gives you up to 30 days to review your current policy and look around to compare other companies. Also, take into consideration your driving record. If you have any infractions against your record and they are due to clear before your renewal date, switching after they clear can save you hundreds. For example: your current policy runs from June 15-December 15, your infraction clears on July 31st, switching to a new company on August 1st allows them to quote you with a clean driving record whereas your current policy won't update your discount until your renewal date.

Your decision to make the jump to a new company should not be based on price alone however. Just remember if you're picking a doctor you wouldn't pick the cheapest one on the market. One key factor to research is the financial ranking of insurance companies. These rankings can be easily found online and should be checked to make sure you're selecting a reputable company with the financial means to pay claims. States also have consumer complaint rankings for companies and it would be a good idea to check these for the prospective company as well.

Shopping around for a better rate is a great practice but shouldn't be done annually. Building a rapport and track record with a company adds value to your business. Being a loyal customer sometimes affords you benefits with your current company such as retention credits, accident forgiveness and vanishing deductibles. Be sure to discuss discounts with your current agent or company to ensure you're receiving all the discounts available to you.

Choosing A Car Insurance Company To Insure Your Car With

ByCarl Vouz

Finding suitable car insurance and deciding which car loan to take up are two very important decisions you make other than your choice of vehicle. Choosing a bad car loan package can affect your cash flow for many years. Likewise buying a wrong car insurance package from a bad insurer can affect you for 12 long months.

Therefore you have to understand which car insurance companies really work for your good. This article reveals what to look out for and teach you how to spot tell-tale signs whether an insurer really cares about you...or not.

The first thing you must understand about the insurer is they are most concerned about their profits. This is not necessarily bad. However if an insurer try to squeeze the very last drop of cash from your pocket without giving you more benefits, you may be left high and dry. So what you need to do is check out the benefits you receive and compare this with other insurers in the market.

If the benefits are not what you really want, then ditch it. Or if there are a lot of benefits but there exists strict restrictions to access these benefits, then this insurance may be a red herring. Try to ask more questions to find out whether this is indeed a suitable insurance company you want to insure your car with.

The second thing you want to look out for is inconsistent motor insurance packages. Insurers want to earn as much as possible to they can keep their portfolio healthy. At least this helps the CEO give a satisfactory answer to the owners. Because of such pressure, they may work through many different channels and then offer some channels better customer incentives than others.

For example, if you take up a particular insurance package from an insurer through a bank, they may give you a set of benefits. But if you take up through another bank, the benefits change. This means some customers are more equal than others. You could just be unlucky enough to get the shorter end of the stick. This may seem mercenary to you, but if you understand that they too have to survive, maybe you will feel better. But avoid these insurers if you can. Their focus is not on you, the customer.

There may be yet other insurers that require you to deal strictly with the insurer directly. This may not be all that bad. But if issues arise, it is you who will lose out in the end. This is because they have their team of lawyers and have agreements that you must unconditionally sign. You can never beat them if you feel unjustified. Yet if you are really short on cash and are highly desperate, using direct insurers may be your saving grace.

Choosing the Best Auto Insurance Company to Get Coverage From

ByJerry Keith

With the number of car accidents showing a rapid increasing, people have started getting their cars insured to save their lives and their cars from any kind of a mishap. There are a number of auto insurance companies operating in the market each with different policies and rates that choosing the best one sometimes become a daunting task. Before you make any agreement with a company, make sure that the company is reliable. It is very important that you look for a company that provides a low cost insurance policy. A reliable company refers to the company that treats the customer in the best possible manner, service wise.

Even if you do not know, every state has a separate department of insurance. The department list down the websites of the registered insurance companies and also publish the 'consumer complain ratios' for all the insurance companies as well. This ratio gives a rough picture of the overall service of the insurance company you are considering. The ratio indicates the number of complaints received per one thousand claims being filed.

You must remember that a big name in the insurance market does not mean that the service they provide will be good. The best way to start your homework for the auto insurance company hunt project is to list down the car insurance companies operating in your state along with their quotes. You can highlight those companies that have the lowest complaint ratios. Once you have highlighted, you will see the list of those companies that are supposed to be in your consideration list.

If you cannot find the complaint ratios list of your state, you can examine the complaint ratio list of other state as well. You must keep one thing in mind that the quality of service of the insurance company can vary from state to state. However, you can watch fro the general trends. If the insurer receives a lot of complaints in other states then the quality of service in your state will most probably be not good as well and it is better not to get involved with this company.

One of the easiest ways to hunt for the reliable auto insurance companies is through referral program. You can ask around in your social circle and see if they can recommend a good company to you. People tend to contact local body shops that they trust and usually seek their opinion. Since the body shop managers have a frequent contact with the insurance adjusters they have a different approach towards the insurance companies which is worth listening. They have a sound knowledge about the companies that are known to have the smoothest claim processes as it later affects the speed of the repair work of the damaged vehicle.

Apart from all the factors, you need to keep your budget in mind when you start your auto insurance company hunt project. The rates do vary from company to company and you need to make the most of what is available to you. The rate the company offers is not the only thing that should be checked. You need to get maximum information about the company's history so that you know it is a reliable one.

Getting auto insurance agents may seem like a no-brainer for you since you might be one of those who always leave it to the car dealer but remember that if you source for auto insurance yourself, it will be cheaper most of the time.
