Everybody who owns a vehicle and drives it is liable to have auto insurance as per the laws of the government. But sometimes you may be confused while purchasing insurance for you, as there are numerous companies offering several products to their customers. You can find an excellent policy for yourself by spending some time on the internet and evaluating the various insurance quotes offered by them. Typically you arrange for a meeting with the insurance agent and answer a series of questions, but in case of achieving online quotes you need to fill the questionnaires of the company at your own place and time. This process is time saving and a cost effective measure to purchase a policy.

The quotes for a risk cover depend on various factors which are discussed below.

Age

Age is the basic factor which influences your quotes to a great extent. Youngsters are considered as high risk factor, therefore they are charged with high premiums. As you reach the middle age, the rates go down because till that time you gain enough driving experience and prove to be a safe driver. Again when you grow older the premium rates go on increasing considerably.

Gender

The insurance premium quotes are affected by the gender of the individual to a great extent. Women are considered to be safe drivers and hence acquire low premium rates as compared to men. Males are more likely prone to accidents as they travel more and considered to be high risk factors. Therefore, their risk cover quotes are high.

Vehicle type

The vehicle for which you are seeking the insurance also affects the rates of the policy. If your vehicle is expensive, the rates are liable to be high as expensive automobiles have more chances to get stolen.

Coverage

The quotes significantly depend on the nature of risk cover you are opting for your automobile. Law of the country makes it mandatory to have liability coverage but if you go for additional benefits like the risk cover against fire or theft, you should be ready to pay higher premium rates.

Driving Record

The ups and downs in your driving record severely affect the rates of premium of your policy. If you have a clear driving record, you can seek for lower quotes but if you have been raised a ticket for any kind of traffic rules violation, your policy rates increases considerably.

Occupation

While deciding the premium rates the company also takes into account the profession of the person. If your profession involves long driving hours your insurance quotes would be high, as you would be more prone to accidents and considered as high risk. But if you have a job in which you sit in an office all day long, you can get a policy at low premium rates because you will be considered as a low risk factor by the company.

So, in this article we have discussed the various factors which have a significant influence on the quotes of your policy. Keep these points in mind and maintain a good driving record in order to attain a cheap insurance policy best suited to your vehicle.

Car insurance is an amazing website that is apt for you if you are planning to get an auto insurance policy. Insurance policy offers you innumerable benefits in terms of vehicle insurance plan.

Factors Influencing Car Insurance Premium

ByGagan Avi Modi

Expert Author Gagan Avi Modi

Car insurance is one of the most vital elements of owning a car. Insurance provides peace of mind to the driver. Many consumers often wonder about the factors that influence their car insurance premium amounts. Premiums for automobile insurance are calculated after taking several factors into consideration. Some of the crucial factors that influence car insurance are listed below.

Details of the car: An individual needs to provide complete details of his/her car, while buying the insurance cover. These details include name of the car manufacturer, make and model of the car, registration city, year of registration, number of kilometers that the car has covered, list of previous owners, fuel type, previous claims etc. Once the insurance provider gets these details, they categorize the car into different risk types. This assessment is based on market trend for claims.

Driving Records: An individual's driving record plays a vital role in deciding the insurance premium. For e.g. an individual who has been penalized for rash driving, over speeding or has been involved in a car crash will pay higher insurance premium as compared to an individual who has squeaky clean driving record. Certain service providers may lower the insurance premium as they see a steady change in the customer's driving record. Reduction of insurance premium is solely at the discretion of the insurance company.

Presence of security systems: Cars that are protected by security devices like a car alarm, immobilizer, GPS tracking system, ignition locking systems etc fall in the low risk category. Owners of such cars pay a lower premium as compared to car owners who do not have adequate security systems in their car. Car owners must invest in installing sturdy security systems to deter thieves.

Marital status: Recent studies have shown that single or unmarried pay higher insurance premiums as compared to that of the married car owners. This is because that there is probability that such individuals are likely to over speed or drive rash vis-à-vis married people. This is however yet an exception in India.

Age: Owners who fall in the age group of 18 to 25 years fall in high risk category for driving offences. Such car owners will shell out higher premiums as compared to car owners in the category of 50+ years.

Location: Insurance companies categorize geographical locations into risk zones. Metropolitan cities witness more accidents as compared to small towns. Owners in a metropolitan will pay higher premiums as compared to the car owners settled in small or mid-sized towns.
