Liability Insurance And Financial Responsibility

ByAllan Koenen

Drivers in the state of Texas must demonstrate that they are financially able to compensate for property damage and injuries caused in an auto accident. Obtaining the minimum amount of Texas liability insurance is the most common way to protect yourself while owning and operating a vehicle. Failure to comply with Texas's financial responsibility law could lead to criminal convictions and monetary fines.

Legislators believe that when you take on the responsibility of driving a vehicle, you should also be able to pay for any damage and injuries you cause.

Auto accidents are a daily occurrence. Even the most careful drivers can end up getting into an accident.

An easy way to cover yourself if you are at fault for an accident is to get auto insurance. The minimum Texas liability insurance requirements are $30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident of bodily injury coverage. The minimum limit for property damage is $25,000 per accident.

Looking for auto insurance quotes online is a convenient way to compare rates and purchase a policy. Provide information such as your zip code, the car description, and types of coverage on the website. Once you provide your information, you will get a list of comparable rates from different companies to choose from.

Even though drivers are only legally required to get the minimum coverage limits, it is prudent to inquire about additional coverage as well. Collision, comprehensive, medical payments, and rental reimbursement are some of the coverages that will protect you in the event of an auto accident. Getting additional coverage will increase the price of the policy but ultimately it may be less expensive to have the insurer cover your expenses if you are injured or have property damage in an accident.

There are penalties for violating the financial responsibility law. A conviction could result in monetary fines. If the fine is not paid or if the issue is not corrected, additional fines may be incurred. Other than financial penalties, it is possible that your driver's license will be suspended. Your car may also be impounded.

Prior to purchasing an auto policy, look at rates from different insurers. Contact insurers directly via email or on the phone if you have questions regarding the appropriate amount of coverage to get. If you have difficulty finding an insurer to cover you, get in touch with the Texas Automobile Insurance Plan Association for assistance. The association provides basic liability coverage to drivers who are rejected by other insurers.

You can find more information about Texas liability insurance requirements and details about different auto ins discounts offered by insurers, now.

Making Sure You Are Fully Protected Against Any Liability

ByAllan Koenen

Life is full of surprises, not all being pleasant. But, if you carry the recommended insurance coverage, they can be at least bearable. You will need minimum requirements for auto, home, health, and personal liability at the very least. You should also have protection for your personal belongings.

There are policies that can be purchased to protect against all sorts of catastrophes. These include automobile, homeowner, and other types of liability policies. Some professions are higher risk and require protection as well. Teacher, doctors, lawyers, and psychologists are just a few examples.

In some cases there are mandated minimums. This is to protect someone who may have an injury or damage claim against you. In other cases there are no mandated minimums, but there are suggested ones. This is to protect you against any claims brought against you. In either case, the minimums are just suggestions. It is often advisable to carry more than the suggested minimum. The small increase in premiums are well worth the extra protection.

In determining how much coverage you might need, you should take into account all costs that could result from a covered event. For example, for homeowners insurance, determine the cost of all you belongings, considering both initial cost and current replacement cost. Also, consider the possibility of any liability claims you might face, such as when someone gets injured on your premises. Consider, also, special circumstances such as owning a pool.

For auto policies, consider not only the medical costs, but the cost of replacing an automobile in the case of an accident that totals a car. Cars are much more expensive now, so will be more costly to replace. If you have a newer or financed car, comprehensive and collision coverage might be required, or at least a good choice. To keep costs low, have a higher deductible. Just be sure you can financially handle in it the event of a claim.

Health insurance is another area where careful calculations should be made. It is one of the most expensive protections. Any way to cut costs without compromising is important. One way to keep costs low is to carry a high deductible. It is basically designed to protect you against a financially catastrophic health event. Having major medical coverage only, with a high deductible, and using the savings in premiums set aside for the more minor events can save a lot, and will still afford you protection.

You can learn everything you've ever wanted to know about recommended insurance coverage limits and find a list of automobile ins FAQs on our site, now.

Car Insurance Comparison: Understand the Types of Liability InsuranceBy: Chris Robertson

Owning a vehicle means having a great responsibility for your family and others. Accidents can and do occur, and that's why state laws require each motorist to carry a certain amount of liability car insurance. Comparisons of car insurance companies reveal that providers differ in the rates they charge. Here are some facts about liability coverage to help your auto insurance comparison go smoothly.

State Requirements

Each state requires car owners to carry liability insurance, but the minimum amount required differs from state to state. For example, the minimum amount of liability coverage in the state of Texas is $25,000 per person and $50,000 total for Bodily Injury Liability and $25,000 for Property Damage Liability. In the state of Ohio, however, the minimum is $12,500 for Bodily Injury Liability and $7,500 for Property Damage Liability. States also have differing requirements as far as procedure in filing insurance, such as the Tort system. The Tort system is designed so that the motorist at fault is responsible for any damages.

Bodily Injury Liability

When doing auto insurance comparisons, be sure to compare rates based on varying amounts available for bodily injury insurance. Bodily injury liability covers injuries and death that may occur as the result of an accident. In other words, if you cause an accident with another car, and someone becomes injured or dies, you will have to pay for their expenses, hospitalization, etc. Liability coverage will cover all or most of these expenses.

It's a good idea to buy more bodily injury insurance than the minimum requirement. This can give peace of mind knowing that you have coverage in case the expenses exceed the state's minimum amount. When doing a car insurance comparison, notice how much difference it makes in the premium if you increase the liability coverage. You might be surprised at how affordable it is to get more coverage.

Property Damage

Another type of liability insurance to consider is Property Damage Liability. With this coverage, your insurance provider will pay for damages to another person's property in the event of an accident. If you hit a car, a fence, a sign, a house, etc., this coverage will cover the costs to repair or replace these items so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

Some states also require a minimum amount of uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance. It is optional in some states, but recommended to all motorists. This is not liability, but does protect you if someone causes an accident and harm to you or your vehicle who does not have adequate coverage.

A few states do not require you to carry liability coverage; however, all states (except New Hampshire), require that you meet financial obligations regarding your vehicle. If you don't have liability insurance, you'll have to be responsible for damages out of pocket.

Consider these facts about liability coverage when doing a car insurance comparison. Comparing rates is easy with online comparison sites. You can just type your information into a form and receive quotes from 10, 15 or 20 providers in an instant. It's easy to compare policies and rates without leaving your desk. Be sure to get the liability coverage you need through a reputable insurance company. You can't afford to be without it!
