Driving Instructors Insurance Crucial As Roughly 100,000 Examinations End in a Near Crash

The Daily Telegraph reiterated figures from the Driving Standards Agency this year that 100,000 (approx) driving tests required the examiner to intervene and prevent a serious accident. Learners prematurely taking on exams are partly to blame but the roads have always been hazardous for green drivers - thankfully, the instructors can now use brokering firms to negotiate a specialised insurance package which protects them from forking out for compensation.

The Telegraph report stated 1,000 out of 1.5 million driving tests actually resulted in a crash or the examiner receiving abuse. A further 112,000 were categorised with a 'dangerous fault', which means anything that causes another road user to take necessary action for their own safety.

Driving test routes are usually identical to driving lesson routes and bumps between separate learners are likely as new drivers become comfortable behind the wheel. More teachers are now covering their unique dual-pedal vehicles with driving instructor insurance as they face an increasing threat.

The Association of British Insurers revealed in November 2011 that one in four of fatalities or serious injuries involve a young driver. The ABI went on to suggest there should be a compulsory one-year learning period for new drivers and short term crash courses should be banned. Something that most experienced drivers on the road would only appreciate knowing that novice and inexperienced drivers will be less likely to be taking risks on the roads.

Specialist licenses restricting young motorists to daytime only driving and limiting the amount of passengers they are allowed to carry, were also proposed by the ABI. The association went on to put forward the idea of a second test after two years of driving. Some young drivers might put up a fight about that one, arguing that if they were competent enough to pass the first test and navigate the roads for two years successfully, then another driving test would be unfair and unneccessary. However, the jury is still out on that one.

Indirectly, business would rocket for instructors but so too would the need for driving school insurance. Brokering services would see an increase in client activity too as they seek the specialised instructor insurance quotes.

The ideas are good for everybody and even though youngsters may not see the benefits initially - their own insurance premiums would seriously drop if they have more years experience and if there are less accidents happening as a result. And with more experience and responsible drivers on the road, both insurance seekers and those providing the insurance will be able to breathe easy.
